CFD Management Development Experience

Multiple Location/Dates

This three-day management course (two days in July and one day in August at each location) is customized for employees who volunteer for or are appointed to work on the Combined Fu nd Drive (CFD) campaign. It uses the CFD campaign as a platform from which attendees will learn supervisory concepts and practices. Participants will be introduced to topical areas such as: understanding the diverse conceptual roles and responsibilities of being a successful leader, defining performance objectives and accountability, motivating employees, supervising others when there is no line authority, communicating effectively, and recognition strategies. This course also integrates project planning and valuable information about recruitment, fundraising and the CFD.

In addition to further developing leadership and supervisory skills, what makes this management course unique is that it contains an added humanitarian focus. This course is especially helpful to employees who understand that these competencies will add value to their job and their CFD campaign role.

The practicum is available for review and will allow multiple opportunities to practice methods and techniques. Increased competencies in the areas outlined below will facilitate additional success with the state's workplace giving program, and the overall workplace.

Performance Objectives: Upon successful completion of this course, participants should be able to:

  • Understand the variety of roles and skills a good leader should demonstrate
  • Increase your knowledge of the CFD program
  • Understand how to motivate employees/volunteers
  • Effectively solicit support for the CFD campaign
  • Effectively measure employee/volunteer performance
  • Demonstrate effective feedback to employees/volunteers
  • Develop a campaign plan for leading your area and volunteers
  • Develop a personal plan for developing better supervisory skills
  • Understand methods of recognition
  • Understand! how to create a culture of giving in the workplace

Competencies covered in this class: Communicating with employees, performance management, planning and organizing work, self development

Intended Audience: CFD volunteers and appointees who desire to develop their leadership skills.

Successful completion of this course provides participants with Supervisory Essentials II credit as well as a Certification of Completion from WSU.
