Pacific Northwest Bridge Inspectors' Conference

March 31, 2009–April 2, 2009
Sheraton Portland Airport Hotel - Portland, OR

2009 Theme: Responsible Leadership in Bridge inspection

Representatives from the states of Oregon, Washington, Hawaii, California, Alaska, Idaho, Nevada, Montana, and FHWA have partnered together to develop a conference that is specifically focused on bridge inspection. The agencies believe the practical information gleaned from this multi-state bridge inspection conference will be of immediate and long-term benefit, and attendees can immediately put it to use in their own bridge inspection programs.

The focus of the Pacific Northwest Bridge Inspectors' Conference is to:

  • Foster a forum for bridge inspectors, to share information, innovations, ideas, and best practices.
  • Provide a means for certified bridge inspectors to fulfill the NBIS requirements for continuing education
  • Cover topics such as Bridge Inspection Safety Practices, Inspecting Concrete, Timber or Steel Bridges, Bridge Inspection How-To Case Studies, Bridge Health Monitoring, and New Methods and Tools for accomplishing our work.
  • Share information on advanced non-destructive test and evaluation methods and equipment.
  • Provide a forum for the participants to gain a current federal perspective and ask questions on existing and proposed requirements of the NBIS, new legislation, and bridge inspection policy and initiatives at the national level.

Key benefits derived from attending and participating in this conference include:

  • Become better equipped and prepared to perform assigned bridge inspection duties by being exposed to lessons learned from others
  • Become more efficient and thorough in the areas of bridge inspection
  • Become more productive by using assigned resources wisely
  • Ensure a higher level of on-the-job safety and environmental awareness
  • Develop your network of counterparts and knowledge base in other states and agencies
  • Increase communication skill sets by developing and delivering presentations
  • Increase understanding of available equipment, tools and techniques to solve special problems

Building on the success of the 2007 Conference, we encourage those interested in bridge inspection to come be a part of both learning and sharing. We value the experiences and knowledge you can bring.
