National Earthquake Conference

April 22, 2008–April 26, 2008
Seattle

Why a National Conference?

Earthquakes can happen anywhere, in almost any state. Forty out of 50 states have moderate to very high earthquake hazards. Seventy-five million Americans are affected. Earthquakes don't happen every year, but when they do, the costs are enormous. Cost to the U.S. economy averages $4.4 billion per year. When the earthquake occurs, impacts on our customers, clients, and communities will be widespread. Planning, preparing and mitigating earthquake effects reduce the social and economic losses we will face. People at every level in business, government, and communities have a role to play in managing earthquake risk.
What is Our Vision for the Conference?
Our vision is to bring greater awareness to earthquake risk and strategies for loss reduction. We want to increase the competence of earthquake professionals, businesses and governments to implement change and take action in their own organizations.
