CALL FOR WORKSHOP PROPOSALS
Workshop proposals are no longer being accepted.
Proposals are now being accepted for 1.5, 2 and 3 hour workshops focusing
on practices and methods for providing parent and family education to a
diverse audience. Preference will be given to proposals that address practical
skills and tools for parent and family educators, education workshop strategies,
recent research, research applications, and program evaluation.
First presenters may attend the conference at no charge on the day of
their scheduled workshop OR receive 50% off the entire conference fee.
Second presenters receive a $50 credit towards conference attendance.
Deadline for proposals: October 30, 2009
Some suggested topic areas include:
- Recession effects on family; Managing in tough times
- Innovative methods for delivering parent education and reaching diverse families
(use of technology, collaborative approaches, social networking sites, marketing
and outreach efforts)
- Parenting and Family Education (Skill development; effective practices; home
visiting; working with diverse clients; communication and relationship skills;
developmental issues in early childhood, school age or adolescence; promoting
healthy relationships; discipline, building family strengths)
- Family Wellness (food/nutrition; social/emotional/mental health; physical health;
substance abuse prevention and recovery; stress and coping; brain development
and family economics)
- Families in Transition (divorced families; step families; families with children
who have special needs; crisis or trauma; relatives as parents; adoption;
relocation; launching children; the transition to parenting)
- School Connections (school readiness; supporting school success)
- Community (building community capacity for parenting education and family
support; work/life issues; child care systems; community initiatives; policy)
- Program management (evaluation/assessment; grant writing and funding)
Computer or laptop connection, LCD projector, VCR, DVD, and Document Camera/Overheads
are available for all workshop presenters. There will be one computer classroom
available with 30 computers available for participants. Please indicate in your
proposal if you’d like to use this facility. Availability is limited.
INSTRUCTIONS FOR SUBMITTING A WORKSHOP PROPOSAL
Proposals should be submitted online at conferences.wsu.edu/nwparenting -
click on the call for papers tab.
Required information includes:
- Contact information for ALL presenters
- A brief Bio for ALL presenters (50 word limit, to be entered
through set link for proposals) Presenters are also required to
email their resume ehou@wsu.edu.
- The presentation/workshop title
- A short workshop description: (50 word limit, to be used on the
website and in the conference program)
- A detailed description of your presentation, objectives, and
methods: Highlight your objectives and teaching methods. The
Proposal Review Committee considers this section carefully.
(Limit 600 words)
- Your preferred length of workshop (1.5, 2 or 3 hours)
Those wishing to SELL curricula or other materials must request
a table in the exhibitor area. Presenters will not be permitted to
sell curricula or materials in workshops.
Exhibits: The Northwest Parenting and Family Education Conference will
have an exhibit area for vendors and organizations. For further information
